Achievement in visual effects

I haven’t seen all of the nominated movies so I can’t really say I agree or disagree with a lot of these. However, after a quick glance, I am surprised by some missing names, such as Ben Affleck, Kathryn Bigelow and Quentin Tarantino in the directing category. I was also surprised by the lack of nominations for “Moonrise Kingdom.” I thought it was some of Wes Anderson’s best work and Oscar worthy. Maybe it was a little too precious and quirky for the Academy.

My favorite movie this past year was “Argo,” but, again, I’ve only seen half of the movies in the best picture category. I’m planning to watch many more in the coming weeks, such as “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Life of Pi” and “Django Unchained,” so I hope to get a better perspective and sense of things as it gets closer to the Oscar show.

More to come about the nominated — and snubbed — screenplays.
